INDEPENDENT REGIONAL SEED DIRECTORY

Find seed sellers matched to your climate.

Seed sellers matched to your climate — not just your state. Search by USDA hardiness zone or ZIP code, then explore sellers whose published information supports that climate focus.

Find seeds for your zone

Start with a five-digit US ZIP code or select a USDA hardiness zone directly.

ZIP lookup uses the bundled 2023 USDA zone reference data and runs locally in your browser. You can also select a zone directly.

Direct zone selection does not require a ZIP code.

USDA hardiness zones describe winter temperature patterns, not every growing condition. A zone match is a research starting point, not a guarantee that particular seeds will thrive at your address.

BROWSE

Browse seed sellers by USDA zone

Zone pages include sellers only when their own published material supports the zone assignment. A seller's location alone is never used as evidence of specialization.

Zone listings are being verified

No zone-specific seller listings are published yet. Zone directories will appear as seller-published specializations are checked.

REGIONAL SEED SOURCING

Browse by climate region

Hardiness zone is only part of the picture. Regional climate, growing-season length, and local environmental conditions can matter when choosing seeds.

Climate-region listings are being verified

Region pages will be published as seed sellers' own climate descriptions are verified. No regional specializations have been assigned without sources.

HOW TO BUY

Choose an ordering method that fits

A seed seller's climate focus is one consideration. How that seller accepts orders is another. We distinguish ordering methods using information published by each seller.

Online small-packet

Order individual seed packets through an online storefront. This can suit gardeners experimenting with different varieties or planting smaller areas.

Catalog mail-order

Browse a seller's catalog and follow its published mail-order process. Check current catalogs for order methods, availability, and minimums.

Both methods

Some sellers publish both online ordering and catalog mail-order options. We show both only when their own information confirms them.

PUBLISHED SELLER INFORMATION

Each published seller record identifies its climate specialization, supported USDA zones where stated, ordering method, and the source used to verify it.

OUR METHOD

What makes a climate match?

Start with your zone

Select a USDA hardiness zone directly. ZIP lookup will be added once the verified ZIP reference data is in place.

Check published specialization

We match sellers using zone or climate information supported by their own published materials. We do not infer specialization from their address.

Review the seller's source

Each verified listing links to its original source and shows when that information was checked. Confirm current offerings before ordering.

A seller appearing in a zone search does not mean every seed in its catalog is suitable for that zone. Read our verification methodology.

GARDENING GUIDE

Why shop for seeds by climate instead of state?

State borders do not define growing conditions. Elevation, winter temperatures, summer heat, precipitation, and growing-season length can vary considerably within a single state.

USDA plant hardiness zones describe average annual extreme minimum temperatures. They are useful for understanding winter cold, but do not by themselves establish which vegetable, flower, or native-plant seeds will perform well in your garden.

Regional seed sellers may describe their catalogs in terms of local climates, growing seasons, or particular seed types. SeedsByZone preserves those descriptions rather than assigning unsupported climate claims.
